Contemporary Art for Kids
When it comes to culture, kids have it pretty good: Entire TV networks at their disposal. Whole wings of libraries. Disney. And when they’re in the mood for music: They Might Be Giants.
What’s entirely missing, of course, is contemporary conceptual art aimed squarely at their developing minds. Rousseau to the rescue. Like the best Pixar movies, some of his series are meant to delight kids while also appealing to their parents.
Camelflage, Ice Art, Ladybugs Enlarged, P.O.O.P.S. and Non-Trad Traffic Lights are just some of the series that may inspire kids to think imaginatively about color, shapes and daring to be different. It may even inspire them to become artists, though let’s hope not. Better if it leads to creative engineers and norm-shattering scientists.
Hang the art in the kids’ bedrooms, where it will look great, impress their friends and make them at least a tiny bit happier, without any prescription. And after they head off to their Ivy League school (on full academic scholarship, you’re welcome!), parents can pilfer the art for their own viewing pleasure.
Head over to the Kids section of the site to view nearly 1,100 works all well under $200. (Discounts available for interior designers.)
