Sound Art & Video Art
As a journalist at publications like The New York Times and Architectural Record, Bryant Rousseau has long used sound and video to teller richer stories, whether letting listeners hear snippets of the language with more sounds than any other or touring urban landmarks with renowned architects. He has even done the impossible: Made an interesting video about property insurance.
CD Series
As an artist, Rousseau has also made sound and video an important part of his work. In his CD series, the art is not just the striking photography used for the front and back images for the albums of imaginary bands; it’s also the original music that comes with each CD and the original music videos he has created.
Composed with the help of artificial intelligence software, the music matches the mood of each song title and the fictional band that plays it. The music videos further enrich the song’s story. The original compositions and videos are exclusive to these CDs, sold in editions of 20.
In other video work, Rousseau films the esoteric, occasionally scary rituals required to embed a wish into his “Votive Void” painting series, where each canvas comes with the (all-but-guaranteed) power to grant one request. The purchaser of each painting is sent a link to a private, password-protected site where the video is displayed.
Here is a sample video, viewable by all.
And coming soon: Video clips of the artist in full-on performance mode. Stay tuned.
